A disznó kitartó, határozott, de barátságos.
What does it mean?
Search for your adjectives in a dictionary, for example here.
ÉS or DE?
Easy-peasy! These two words sign the connection type between two parts of a sentence or between two elements of an idea.
ÉS means AND. This signs additional relation.
DE means BUT. This is an opposed, contradictory position.
For example:
erős és okos ~ strong and smart
nyugodt, de makacs ~ calm, but stubborn
What if there is no sign between the adjectives?
Well, there is. Look, there is a comma.
That also sings additional information, mostly when ideas are listed, enumerated in a sentence.
That is why Hungarians always use commas every single time they write in English. 🙂
Attention, please!
Between two additional elements connected by the word ÉS we don’t use a comma.
However in contradictory relations with the word DE, there has to be a comma before DE.
erős és okos ~ strong and smart
nyugodt, de makacs ~ calm, but stubborn
csendes, türelmes, nyugodt ~ silent, patient, calm
Do you see? 🙂
Okay, then!
Does it seem difficult?
Well, it isn’t. Come, I’ll show you! 🙂
2)Take a paper, please!
Copy your sentence at least 3 times!
Choose a sentence that contains ÉS. Write it down 3 times! Remember, don’t use a comma!
